How to apply for a residence or work permit

A residence permit is given only upon approval by the Danish Immigration Service in Copenhagen – the process may take 4-6 months. Such a permit will be valid for Denmark only, not the entire Schengen-area. Application forms can be downloaded here. (Please note that each of the Immigration Service’s application forms for Danish residence and work permits have been developed for a specific type of applicant.)

Submission of applications:

All applicants who wish to submit an application have to appear between 08:00 am to 2.00 pm, at the Visa Application Center for Denmark, at Labone from Monday to Friday

Interview:

Applicant will be given an interview date at VFS for them to be present at the Denmark embassy.The visa application Centre will be closed to the public on notified holidays.

Requirements for residence and work permit applications

The following requirements should be met when handing in the application for residence and work permit. Remember that all documents must be in original, with two copies.

Requirements for family reunification of spouses:

Two completed applications form in capital letters, signed by the applicant
Birth certificate + photocopy
Marriage certificate + photocopy
Certificate of divorce + photocopy if applicable
Letter from employer or school + photocopy
Current passport valid at least six months beyond requested residence period + photocopy of the picture page
Previous passport if any + photocopy
Six recent passport sized photographs in colour with a white background
Non refundable fee Euro 135.00

Requirements for family reunification with children:

Two completed applications form in capital letters, signed by the applicant
Birth certificate + photocopy
Letter from school + photocopy
Current passport valid at least six months beyond requested residence period + photocopy of the picture page
Previous passport if any + photocopy
Six recent passport sized photographs in colour with a white background
Non refundable fee Euro 135.00

 For all other applications:

Two completed applications form in capital letters, signed by the applicant
Birth certificate + photocopy
Letter from school or employer + photocopy

Six recent passport sized photographs in colour with a white background
Letter or contract from reference or school in Denmark

VISA APPLYING
PROCESS


Step 1
Short Term visa applications for Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Iceland, Finland, Greenland and Faroe Islands and Long Term Visa applications for Denmark and Norway are accepted at the VFS application centre.

Step 2
Please walk-in at the visa application centre to submit your Short Stay or Long Stay application.

Step 3
Please go to the link “All about your Visas” to understand details of Short Stay and Long stay applications.

Step 4
You must apply in person - On arriving the visa application centre, you will require to take a token at the entrance and be seated in the waiting area – you will next be called to our submission counter where your application and supporting documents will be scrutinized – your photograph and passport will be checked for validity – You will be issued a receipt for the fees and service charges paid, as an acknowledgement.

Step 5
Finally, you would be scheduled for an interview at the Danish Embassy.
